House Divided: The Break Up of Dispensational Theology (80017)
Published in Hardcover by Inst for Christian Economics (November, 1989)
Average review score:

A fine bookThis is a work worthy of attention. The critique of Dispensationalism is valid. And, despite the somewhat negative review above, the Postmil view espoused in this book cannot be fairly labeled as merely utopian, and certainly the victory and hope found in Postmil does not deny the teachings of Christ concerning the poor in spirit or those who mourn. Instead, the hope is a final hope. Christ will indeed be vicotrious. That is what is interpreted by Postmils. In fact, Postmil teaching is more often criticized for suggesting GREATER trials instore than it is for offering some type of Utopian bliss. Give it a fair read. It will be informative and worthy of consideration.
excellent workThe critique of the pathetic "scholarship" of Hal Lindsey is worth the price of the book. The authors show Lindsey to be an unreliable teacher who has no knowledge of Greek (indeed he severly twists its meaning) and to be ignorant of the entire system of Christian Reconstructionism.
For those who think that postmillenialists are utopian I can only say that you have never read the standard works on the subject.
Proper burial for dispensationalsimThe late Dr. Greg Bahnsen along with co-author Dr. Kenneth Gentry do a masterful job of interacting with leading dispensational critics of theonomy and demonstate their extremely slanderous writings. In doing so the authors also point out how dispensationalism is a skeleton in a closet whose proper burial is long over due and how modern defenders are losing the battle to defend this corpse. Bahnsen and Gentry demonstrate how postmillenialism is NOT some utopian materialistic option but is one based on a proper view of GOD's soveriegn rule over history and how this will eventually be seen in culture. In the long line of great orthodox postmillenialists such as St. Augustine and St. Athanasius, J. Gresham Machen and others Bahnsen and Gentry do a great service to the evangelical church in giving us an alternative to a school of thought whose burial is long over due.

Rama: The Official Strategy Guide (Secrets of the Games Series.)
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (November, 1996)
Average review score:

It doesn't work!I wasn't really that interested in solving the puzzles of the game. I actually dislike adventure games. But I am a huge fan of the Rama series of books and I bought the game so I could explore Rama myself. After getting frustrated from getting stuck, I bought the book to help me get through the puzzles and get through the rest of the game. The book is easy to follow, descriptive, and shows helpful screen shots. The trouble is, I still get stuck, even when I follow the book to the letter. At a certain point, if you supposedly have done everything right, a certain event is supposed to happen in the game, after many tries, it never happens and I can't get any further.
Tired of fumbling around? Buy this book!I picked up a copy of this excellent guide through the game out of desperation, when technical problems (not related to the game itself) caused me to have to reinstall Rama and start over. At the time, I had made my way through about 85% of the game's plot line and puzzles, over the course of several months of casual game play. The walkthrough format is very easy to follow, and it allows you to decide how much help you use, because it is broken down according to the various areas within the game that you must explore and solve your way through. A word of caution--the walkthrough is so concise, you may find it hard to put down, and rely on your own skills. If used sparingly, you will enjoy all of the rewards that Rama offers, without getting hopelessly stuck in some of the more difficult areas of the game.
Well-laid-out guide through an enjoyable, challenging game. The RAMA game is an excellent game for anyone who enjoys the plot-and-puzzle game type. If Arthur Clarke is already an author on your shelf, you will additionally enjoy taking a tour of his RAMA spaceship and the diverse life forms encountered therein. You are a replacement astronaut on a mission to explore the RAMA spaceship and assess whether it compromises earth's security. The original commander died mysteriously before you arrived. You must explore the ship from end to end, solving puzzles and collecting everything in sight, to find out whether RAMA is a marvel or a menace and to unravel the intrigues whirling around you as you interact with the rest of the crew.
The puzzles are challenging and it's easy to get stuck. That's why the strategy guide is a great companion to the game. Use it judiciously to extend the play and surprise of the game, or follow it step-by-step as a walk-through, this book will provide the clues, answers, and order of events required to complete the game.

The Anatomy and Biology of the Human Skeleton
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (August, 1988)
Average review score:

A bone cracking experienceI found this book to be a wonderful teaching aid for an osteology student. It shows realistic pictures for each bone and helps students to learn indepth information about each. This book works great as a lab guide but lacks in some areas. There are times when measurements could be better explained or additional information given. Overall, this is a great companion to other osteological text.
A great book for the beginning osteologist!I was a student of Dr. Claud Bramblett, and this book teaches as wonderfully as he does! The pictures are excellent, and show every angle of the bones, and the book also gives basic regression formulas for estimating stature.

English country life at the hands of a masterA tongue in cheek, close-up look at the manners and mores of country life in England in the '30s. A modern-day Jane Austin, nothing much happens in any of her books, other than a marriage or christening. Sly, humourous and wittily observed - a perfect intro to the world of Barsetshire.

Football's Mis-Direction Wing-T With Multi-Points of Attack (The Art & Science of Coaching Series)
Published in Paperback by Coaches Choice (May, 2000)
Average review score:

Great BookIf you are a youth football coach and looking for a sound fundamental offensive scheme, this is your book. It is simple to understand and teach. I coach a 7 year old team in Southern Ohio (Clermont County). We used one play from this book 95% of the time. The play was a fullback dive, with an option to hand off to the wing back or have the QB keep it. With the principles in this book, we compiled an 8-1 record and division title our first year ('00). It's a great starting book for those looking to develop an offensive play book/plan. Enjoy and Good Luck!

Grace and Favor: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (November, 1997)
Average review score:

A sensitive reflective novel that rewards the careful readeGrace and Favor is an intriguing novel and well worth the read. Mr Caplan captures well the sense of anxiety that besets those of us who attempt to wend our way through the thicket of English society. It is, as Mr Caplan's character John Brook might have admitted, something of an emotional roller-coaster as one is alternately assured of one's place and then reminded that one is at best a tolerated temporary visitor. The popular usage of 'grace and favour' refers to large country estates, the use of which is granted to high government officials during their time in office. Chequers, for example, is the 'grace and favour' estate of the Prime Minister; and a snap election could displace the occupant from a 'grace and favour' estate less than four weeks after the dissolution of parliament. The title seems meant to evoke the sense in which John Brook feels he is only present at Castlemorland by the grace and favour of his wife and her family. The book is a sensitive and reflective exploration of Brook's search for a sense of belonging more permanent than a 'grace and favour' situation can allow.

A Guide to Navajo Weavings
Published in Paperback by Treasure Chest Publications (January, 2002)
Average review score:

Good book for a short pictorial overview of Navajo rugsAlthough this book is short on written content, it makes up for its brevity with a great selection of colourful pictures from many Navajo styles. This book focuses on a historic review of styles rather than a "how-to" for new weavers. It's short and it's inexpensive, so don't expect a thorough overview.

Handbook of Mottoes: Borne by the Nobility, Gentry, Cities, Public
Published in Hardcover by Clearfield Co (June, 1971)
Average review score:

A excellent adjunct to heraldic studySince a motto is not usually an integral part of a Grant of Arms, it can be adopted or changed at will . . . nor need one ever possess arms to adopt a motto. Originally published in 1860, these were collected not only from peerages and county histories, but from bookplates, carriages, plaques in churches, and other sources. One of my favorites is "Latet anguis in herba" -- "The snake lurks in the grass," adopted by the Anguish family.

Jimmie Davis: More Than Sunshine
Published in Paperback by Sweet Dreams Publishing Company (September, 2000)
Average review score:

A Sideman Remembers.Kenny Gill played in Davis' band and got to know the politician/singer personally. Gill's book is valuable because he captures the human side of Jimmie Davis very well, particularly his humor. A very enjoyable read and one recommended for those who want to gain insight into both Davis and country humor.
